International Conference on Competitiveness Strategies for the Small States of the EU

The International Conference on Competitiveness Strategies for the Small States of the EU, organized by the Observatory for competitiveness, in collaboration with STATEC and the Islands and Small States Institute of the University of Malta, took place on 19-20 April 2018 in Luxembourg.

The conference brought together national and international researchers, as well as the interested public, to discuss different issues on competitiveness, particularly with regard to the specificities of small states. Beside the three keynote speeches, six parallel sessions on strategies, entrepreneurship, economic development, global indicators, policy framework and social aspects gave informative insights and allowed fruitful exchanges.

The participants agreed that competitiveness strategies should feature prominently amongst the priorities of the small states of Europe and that these strategies should be embedded in national development policies. The participants also recommended that a Small States Network should be established to cooperate in promoting a culture of competitiveness in the small states of Europe and for Europe as a whole.
